Dr Juan Carlos Franco



Dr. Juan Carlos Franco, 91 of Fayetteville, NC passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. The funeral service will be held Saturday July 29, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at St Patrick’s Catholic Church, 2844 Village Dr., Fayetteville, NC. Visitation will be at 11:00 a.m. also at St Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Dr. Franco was a physician specialized in pathology and served as Chief pathologist at the VA Medical Center for the last ten years of his 22- year tenure at the facility. The first 20 years of his esteemed career were spent serving his local community in Asuncion, Paraguay as an internal medicine physician while simultaneously serving as a medical professor of pathology at Edificio de Ciencias Básicas Medical School. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Nidia Franco, four sons, Carlos Franco of Fayetteville, Dr. Jorge Franco (wife Frances) of Fayetteville, Dr. Oscar Franco (wife Carol) of Fayetteville, Dr. Juan C. Franco Jr. (wife Slava), of Atlanta, Georgia; and two daughters, Maria Franco and Sera Alvarenga, both of Fayetteville. Surviving grandchildren are Christian Franco of Fayetteville, Sebastian Franco of Burlington, Vermont, Jonathan Franco of New York City, and Victoria Franco of Fayetteville. He has also left a legacy of students, colleagues, nieces, nephews, politicians, and many others whose lives have been impacted by the exemplary role model he was. They admired and respected him greatly.

He was an extraordinary man who dedicated his entire life to being an exemplary role model as a scientist, healer, husband and father. He was loved by everyone that knew him and was known for his kind, gentle, and humble spirit.
