George Graham "Buck" Monroe

George Graham “Buck” Monroe, 82, of White Oak, NC, passed away on December 7, 2017, in the comfort of his home after an extended battle with dementia. George was a retired construction worker and pork producer. He will always be remembered for his “entrepreneurial spirit.” One of his most successful business ventures was starting a restaurant at age 54 as co-owner of Southern Style BBQ & Chicken, Inc. in Clinton, NC. He especially enjoyed hunting champion Treeing Walker hounds in competition hunts all over the United States. Most of all, he was honored to serve his country as a Surgical Technician in the United States Army.

George was married to Mattie P. Monroe for 63 years and thanked her daily for her devotion and commitment to his care. His ultimate joy was his family: one daughter Samantha M. DiPinto (Alfredo DiPinto, husband), Graham N. DiPinto (Elizabeth Hood, fiancée) is the only grandchild and was especially loved and spoiled by his “papa,” longtime employee of 42 years and friend Matthew “Pink” Melvin, and many nieces and nephews who always enjoyed teasing their “Uncle Buck!”

George was the youngest son of Hartwell P. and Bonnie Graham Monroe. He had several siblings – Paul, Edward, Gary, Howard, and Mary.

Special recognition should be given to Mary Johnson Davis for her care of his needs over the last 18 months.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, December 10, 2017, with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. at Clinton Community Church in Clinton, NC. Interment will take place in the family cemetery at 927 Big Island Rd., White Oak, NC, beginning at 4 p.m.
