Obituary

Grace Johnson Beard, beloved mother and grandmother, a longtime resident of the Cedar Creek Community of Fayetteville; passed away Monday January 29th, at the age of 95.

Grace was born in Apex, NC., June 2nd, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Jeter Clarence and Lottie Dora (Mitchell) Johnson. She was the wife of the late Albert Floyd Beard Jr. of Fayetteville. They are survived by six sons and their wives: Al Beard, wife Betty (Hales) of Lexington, SC; Don Beard, wife Cindy (Willis) of Sandford, NC; Ray Beard; Gary Beard, wife Beth (Jordan); Larry Beard, wife Robin (Forbes); James Beard, wife Kay (Johnson); all of Fayetteville.

Grace is preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas Carlyle Johnson of Clinton, NC,
Walter Richard Johnson, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Jeter Clarence Johnson of Durham, NC, Robert Leavy Johnson, Red Douglas Johnson, a sister, Clara Bernice (Johnson) Jackson of Fayetteville, and a granddaughter, Renee Beard of Fayetteville.

Grace worked at Rose's as an office clerk until her retirement in 1986.

A member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church, she enjoyed singing in the choir and helping others. Her family was very important to her, she enjoyed cooking and watching her sons participate in sports.

A proud grandmother, she is survived by 12 grandchildren: Tyler Beard, Alison Soucy, Megan Chavis, Lindsay Beard, Jeremy Beard, Laura Cannady, Justin Beard, Stephanie Matarese, Mabel Forsdick, Sam Beard, Mary Grace Beard and Jack Beard. A great-grandmother of 11: Emma Soucy, Holly Beard, Olivia Beard, Hunter Matthews, Carter Chavis, Christopher Beard, Madison Beard, Zoe Cannady, Zac Cannady, Logan Matarese, and Jane Forsdick.

The family of Grace Beard would like to thank all the family and friends for their kind thoughts, prayers, and help at this time.

Visitation will be held at Cedar Creek Baptist Church on Tabor Church Rd, beginning at 10:00am Thursday February 1st. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 at the church. Rev. David Weeks and Dr. John Peverett will be officiating. Burial will follow the funeral at the church cemetery.
