Obituary

SGM (Ret) William P Skillman, 76, went to be with the Lord on February 24, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.

SGM Skillman was born on June 21, 1941 in Ft. Jay, NY to Lt. William and Elizabeth Skillman. He spent much of his youth in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, graduating from Windber High School in Windber, PA.
SGM Skillman enlisted in the US Army as a Military Police Officer in 1959. SGM Skillman served with distinction in both peace time and war. In 1963, SGM Skillman graduated from the Airborne Course at Ft. Benning, GA, earning the jump wings of a US Paratrooper. SGM Skillman embraced being a paratrooper and the airborne motto of “All the Way” defined everything he did. SGM Skillman served in both the Vietnam War and the Dominican Republic. His courage, valor, and commitment was recognized when he was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions while assigned to the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. SGM Skillman continued to serve with the 82nd Airborne Division until his retirement in 1982.
SGM Skillman was also a generous and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Doris Nazarchyk Skillman, of Fayetteville, NC; his daughter Doris Hasler (Carl) of Charlestown, IN; his son, William P. Skillman II (Shannon) of Sanford, NC; his grandchildren, Matthew Hasler (Lauren), Megan Rivera (Angel), Jeremiah Hasler, Scarlett Skillman and Vincent Skillman; and his great-grandchildren Caden and Ryker Rivera. He is preceded in death by his father William Vernon Skillman, his mother Elizabeth Rodish Skillman, and his brother Robert Skillman.
A celebration of life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, 545 Ramsey St., Fayetteville, NC, with visitation immediately following. A funeral with full military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Vietnam Veterans of America.
