Wainwright  F. "Button" Cox



Master Sgt. (Ret.) Wainwright F. “Button” Cox, 82, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Veterans Hospital in Fayetteville.

Wain was born in McColl, S.C. April 2, 1935 to Carl R. And Alice Modlin Cox.

He served in the U.S. Army for 23 Years, where he served two tours in Vietnam. He was a member of the Rakkasans, VFW and DAV where he served as Past Commander of the Fayetteville Chapter 46. He was a 25 year Master Mason where he was a member of the Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of North Carolina. He was an avid NASCAR fan.

Wain was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 59 years Doris Dowdy Cox; siblings, Carl Russell Cox, Harley Modlin Cox and Carl Ronald Cox.

He is survived by his children, Wayne F. Cox of Fayetteville; Dawn Cox of McColl, S.C. Cynthia Cox Torok (Elek) of Parkton, Dean Cox of Parkton; brother, Edwin S. Cox (Norma Jean) of Cheraw, S.C. and a special friend Clara Bondoc of Fayetteville.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 14, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home with Masonic Rites.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home with burial following in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
