Obituary

Glenn Edwin Martin, 81, of Fayetteville, N.C. passed away on March 23, 2018 at Cape Fear Medical Center. He was born in Scottsburg Indiana to Francis Martin and Martha McCrary.

Glenn is survived by his loving wife, Hwa Cha, of Fayetteville; daughter, Sandra M. Pate (W. Patrick), Manassas, VA; grandsons, William Glenn Pate and Andrew Patrick Pate; brother, Francis Martin (Jo), Alabama; sisters, Sally Rhody and Sue Issak, Indiana and many loving nieces and nephews and other family.
Glenn was devoted to his family and in particular to his wife of almost six decades. They shared a passion for sports and in particular for Carolina where his daughter and son-in-law met. He was extremely proud of his grandsons and always had words of support and advice for them.

Glenn retired in 1980 as Command Sargent Major after 26 years of service in the army and navy. His years of service included 2 tours of Vietnam as a Green Beret in the 5th Special Forces Airborne and his last assignment was at St. Bonaventure University as a ROTC instructor. He received many medals and awards, notably the Bronze Star and Bronze Star (First Oak Leaf Cluster) for heroism in ground combat; twice received the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation.

The family is thankful for the doctors and nurses on 2 & 6 South and the Fayetteville Korean Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held on March 27, 2018 from 7:00pm-9:00pm at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

A celebration of Glenn’s life will be held on March 28, 2018 at 12:30pm at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. A grave side service with military honors will follow at 2:00pm at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
