Deston Russell Miller

Deston Russell Miller, 86 of Fayetteville passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018 in his home.

Russell was born April 2, 1932 in Green County, Kentucky to the late Russell and Ivy Miller. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dale Miller.

In many ways Russell embodied the ideal American, pulling himself up by the bootstraps to provide a comfortable life for his family. Russell dutifully served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne, fought in the Korean War, married the girl from the checkout counter, built his house with his own hands (the same house that he'd live in the rest of his life), could fix anything with an engine, installed countless cabinets under Brock Cabinets, and led a fulfilling life as a patriarch for both church and family. Russell had a warm smile and a knack for humor and storytelling, he will be greatly missed by friends and family.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 1:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 3200 Scotty Hill Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28303. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey St. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Russell is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Gloria Ann Currin Miller of the home; son, Donnie Miller and wife Tamara of Midway, Utah;daughters, Charlene Miller of Fayetteville and Cheryl Miller of Scottsdale, Arizona; sister, Mary Lynn Netherland of Austin, Texas; sister-in-law. Dorene Miller of Campbellsville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Christi Miller, Shea McGee and Austin Miller; great-grandchildren, Wren McGee, Piper Miller and Ivy McGee.
